Splitting a List
Segmenting a list into two or more parts can be a useful way to discover which version of your email receives the highest click-through rate or highest unique open rate.
To split a list, you'll use the Dynamic List interface. You'll have the options to simply split a list into multiple parts or split a dynamically generated list into multiple static lists.
Split a List into 2 Parts
- Open the Subscribers & Lists folder and click Lists
- Click the Add List button at the top of the grid and then select the type Dynamic
- Select the list you want to split
- You don't need to define any rules
- Click Save Rules
- Click Create Static List in the bottom right corner
- Enter a name for the lists ("Part 1/2" and "Part 2/2" will automatically be added to this name for each list)
- Select yes, into 2 parts from the Split List drop down menu
- If you would like to randomize how the lists are split, select Randomize from the drop down menu
- Click Create New Static List
- The lists are now saved in the Lists folder
Split a List of Dynamically Generated Subscribers

- Click the Add List button and then select the type Dynamic
- Select the lists you want to use as a basis for your dynamic list
- Create rules to filter these lists
- Click the icon to add another rule or the icon to delete the rule
- Select a custom field or subscriber interaction, such as they opened an email in the last 30 days, from the first drop down menu
- Fill out the other rule options

- Select yes, into 2 parts from the Split List drop down menu
- If you would like to randomize how the lists are split, select Randomize from the drop down menu
- Click Create New Static List
- The lists are now saved in the Lists folder
NOTE: These split lists are static, so they won't automatically update in the future like a dynamic list.
