Reports Timing Out in Firefox

Some custom reports with large amounts of data can take a few minutes to run.  If you are using Firefox as a web browser and received a timeout issue message after 5 minutes of waiting for the report to run, the issue is most likely with the Firefox timeout settings.

There is a new FireFox timeout setting called ‘network.http.response.timeout’, which was introduced in Firefox 29. The default value for this timeout is 5 minutes (300 seconds).  In previous versions of Firefox there was no default value.  After changing this timeout setting to a longer value, the reporting should work without timing out.

  1. To change this setting, simply type about:config into the Firefox browser address bar and hit enter

  2. Click "I'll be careful, I promise!" to confirm that you will be careful when changing the advanced settings

  3. You will see a page with all of the configurable settings.  Search for ‘network.http.response.timeout‘ to isolate just the one setting you need to change

  4. The default value is 300 seconds (5 minutes).  If you are running into the situation where your reports are not coming back with data and you are using Firefox as a browser, you will need to increase this number.  Click OK
